Either you will enjoy it for the atmosphere or it will bore you for its lack of action. So, once again it is a movie of atmosphere - circumstance and necessity. But, if you are able to grasp the negative circumstances of their lives then you can see that her attitude and those of the girls at the brothel is a result of life experience and her actions are from necessity even more than what the plot explains. The boys mother almost doesnt seen to care about him. It is the atmosphere that this movie envokes that will either endear the viewer of alienate them. The weakest part of this movie is its relatively simple plot and there is no complicated or even involved character interaction. The acting is quite good and not over done. Personally I found it most interesting to compare Brazilian cinamatography to what I have seen all of my life here in the US. The picture on the front of the DVD case is the boys face and in the background is an image of him and one of the women at the brothel.
